lose one wheel, or gain two?

Not the Aptera

While surfing this weekend and trying to avoid shoveling the foot or two of snow that was hammering the Northeast, I came across a couple different directions for those of you not satisfied with four wheels. The first one, though, I can’t quite figure out. On first glance, ditchawheel.com looks outright awesome – a shop based in California that specializes in converting four-wheeled cars to three-wheelers. Why have I never heard of this place before? But every link on the website redirects to Aptera’s website. And a whois search on ditchawheel.com returns to Reed Schmidt, who just so happens to be listed at Fast Company as the managing director of Aptera. So I must be just completely out of the loop. Bummer; I was hoping that Nova was real.

Panther Six

Okay, so that three-wheeled Nova’s just a photochop, but the six-wheeled car above, the Panther Six, is real, one of two such built in the late 1970s. With all the recent hyperbole about the Covini being the world’s first six-wheeled car, it’s worth mentioning the Panther.

Reeves SextoAuto

Then again, following the same logic, it’s also worth mentioning the Reeves SextoAuto of 1912; two of those were built as well.
